For as long as I can remember my inner critic was the overriding voice in my head. I really cannot remember a time when it wasn't there.
Over the years it built up quite a repertoire and would often team up with impostor syndrome to really drive things home. It would say things like:
Over the years I developed a variety of strategies to deal with them. This usually involved a battle going on in my head. It took so much energy and all that seemed to happen was the thoughts got stronger and louder. My default was to 'put on a brave face' and pretend everything was ok.
Unfortunately this wasn't an effective long term strategy. It culminated in an extremely serious and crippling episode of clinical depression. This took a lot of work and time to overcome and it was during this period that I discovered Mindfulness. This was the beginning of a change in how I viewed my inner critic.
Mindfulness enabled me to have a huge breakthrough in my recovery from depression and I was able to deal with my inner critic in a much different way. That was until I left work (after 26 years) and embarked on setting up my coaching and development business. BOOOOM!! My inner-critic was back with avengence!
By this time as well as being a qualified professional coach, I was also qualified as a Master Practitioner of NLP and as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. This is when I began to harness all of my experience to develop a programme for myself to turn my inner critic into my inner cheerleader.
It had incredible results so I developed it further so that I could share it with clients and I was able to support many wonderful people in developing their Inner Cheerleader. It takes work and it takes commitment. Everything worthwhile does. The feedback from clients has been amazing and I love to see the change take place in them.
This is just one element of the programme I offer to turn your dreams into reality, yet it is a key element. Some clients are ready to tackle this element immediately, others need more support before they can embark on this stage successfully.

I must start very simply by saying that I recommend Lou Laggan unreservedly. The reasons why we each sometimes need some assistance are many and varied, and highly personal; for me, as a (mostly) functional long-term sufferer of depression, I had experienced years of a gradual loss of focus, concentration and self esteem, culminating in an instance of what was essentially a breakdown. My wife urged me to seek some help, and by-and-by I found Lou. With the first face-to-face appointment, it became clear that what I had stepped into was not a series of sessions; rather a series of two-way conversations. There was no single flow of speech, no mirror psychology expecting me to wander in rhetorical wilderness whilst a semi-silent observer nods and smiles their way through well rehearsed active listening skills. Lou would raise something insightful that she felt would be beneficial to work through, a detail plucked from the conversation without my realising I had said anything pertinent.
I have not looked back since meeting and working with Lou. As I said to her when first we spoke, my mind had become a valley of ice. Well, now the valley is thawing. I’m getting there, but without Lou I would still be frustrated in my futile efforts to escape my own prison.
